In this section, I share what I am up to, pictures of the week, what is new in AI and crypto, and more.
I appreciate the good feedback via the survey. I will wait another week or so for more responses, and then I will share the results. What you submit is anonymous. The survey is here.
On Wednesday, I attended Collective [i] Forecast. Collective [i], the i stands for intelligence, helps companies with AI. They also run Forecast which is a zoom session with famous people. They plan to make it a remote version of Davos. The famous person who took 90 minutes of our questions. There were 245 attendees, mostly from the tech and VC world. The guest was Esther Dyson, Founder of Wellville, Health advocate, Journalist, Author, Investor, and Russian Cosmonaut. I have known Esther for many years. She is a Princeton graduate. We were on a panel together in Moscow in 1995. My Q&A was through interpreters. Esther gave her answers in fluent Russian. Her late father was Freeman Dyson. He worked for Oppenheimer on the nuclear bomb project. Esther’s topic was ‘The Future of Health: Shifting from Addiction to Purpose in the Digital Age”. There were many great questions and great answers.
I attended a reception of donors where John Murphy, MD, CEO of Nuvance and Michael Dowling, CEO of Northwell. Both shared their visions and plans and then entertained Q&A for an hour. I am very bullish about this merger. All it needs at the moment is regulatory approval from the Feds and states of Connecticut and New York. I got a chance to talk with both CEOs. Dr. Murphy is a long-time friend and Mr. Dowling was very impressive. The two embrace innovation, research, and excellent community patient care. The combination will have 21 hospitals.
A friend asked me why I never post political points of view. I am a registered independent in Florida. I have many friends on both sides of the aisle, and I don’t want to alienate any of them. Not that I don’t have points of view. I watched all speakers at both DNC and RNC conventions. A lot of speeches! I do express myself about blockchain mobile voting as I wrote in Election Attitude – How Internet Voting Leads to a Stronger Democracy.
Crypto News This Week: A Quick Overview
Bitcoin is rallying. As of this writing it is approaching $64,000. Many possible factors. One is Harris policy adviser talks digital assets: Speaking at a Bloomberg roundtable event, Kamala Harris policy adviser Brian Nelson said Harris will support policies to grow crypto and other emerging technologies.
Spot bitcoin ETF holdings total $4.7 billion: Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley invested in BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, among other ETFs. I continue to believe that long term value will go along with Blackrock et al ETFs.
