Dear John,

You will absolutely be missed!! There are a few people in my career with IBM that have left a lasting impression on me and have guided my thinking. You are one of those people. When I left IBM Research to come to the CIO's office during Gerry Prothro's reign, I believe I was in culture shock. You represented to me the light of reality, the role model that I needed very badly. You demonstrated what we were in place to do. I honored your clarity, your integrity, your courage, and most of all, your vision.

Later in my career, when I started to build a Knowledge Management program for SWG, I came back to interview you as I knew your input was critical. You warned me that SWG did not need another new set of technologies, they needed to be taught how to use the technologies they already had at their fingertips, effectively. I have incorporated this as a cornerstone of my program and it resonates wherever I go.

John, we never worked directly together although I wished I had that opportunity. But you have indeed touched my career in a major way. I've included my picture below as I was not even sure you would remember me. Many many thanks and best wishes to you!!!

Sincerely,
