Dear John,

In July of 1998, you gave a keynote at Internet World in Chicago. I was working for Fermilab at the time and had already been talking to IBM Global Services about a job with Advantis, but your presentation really inspired me. Afterward, I went up to talk to you and, despite the crush of people around you, you took the time to tell me about IBMs collaboration with Northwestern University and gave me the name of Lee Caldwell. Lee gave me Hari Aroras name and I ended up joining IBM as part of Haris team. Being part of the iCAIR center, first as part of IGS and later as part of the Internet Technology Team, was an awesome experience and Ill always be grateful to you for the opportunity you gave me. I wish you well in your retirement. Im sure youll continue touching peoples lives for the better no matter what your official position.

Sincerely,
David Martin
