Day 3 took us to New Albany, Ohio to visit with some friends. The trip across I-70 was uneventful. Not having the high winds like the day before made the ride much more comfortable. Before dinner, our friends took us to a neighborhood cocktail party with healthcare executives and philanthropic supporters of The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. The Hospital is the patient-care component of The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center. Consistently ranked by U.S.News & World Report as one of the top hospitals in the nation for cancer care, The James is the largest cancer hospital in the Midwest and the third largest in the nation. The CEO and the Chair in Lung Cancer Research talked about breakthroughs in genetic analysis and collaboration across key cancer centers in the country. It was extremely interesting and promising. We then went to dinner and discussed the things we had learned.
After breakfast with our friends, who were so generous to have us stay with them, we spent a good chunk of Day 4 at the Columbus Arts Festival in downtown Columbus, right on the Ohio River. It is one of the largest Festivals in the country with 500+ artists and craftsmen and a half-million people. The creativity on display was impressive. See the pictures in the Facebook album.
