Data Center World Fall 2011
ORANGE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–In just two weeks, AFCOM, the world’s leading data center association, will open Data Center World in Orlando, Fla. This must-attend event for data center and facilities management professionals will take place September 11–14 at the Orlando World Marriot. It is expected to draw nearly 750 attendees and 175 exhibitors.
“We will, of course, continue to cover all the essential issues data center and facilities managers face today in maintaining the flow of information throughout their organizations.”
Highlights during this four day conference include:
- Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: In light of a recent AFCOM survey that found more than 15 percent of data centers have no plan for business continuity or disaster recovery; 50 percent have no plan to replace damaged equipment after a disaster; and two-thirds of all data centers have no plan or procedures to deal with cybercrime; a special track and report will be offered to help CIOs and data center management prepare for the unexpected.
- Hurricane Forecasting: A special look at the development of the National Oceanic Atmospheric Association’s (NOAA) new $30 million, 54,000 square foot facility in Fairmont, West Virginia. At the heart of the data center is a new super computer, designed to handle the estimated 6,500 more times of computing power needed in order to better monitor hurricanes and more accurately predict daily weather.
- Cloud Computing: As a growing trend that refuses to go away, AFCOM will continue to offer a series of educational sessions designed to help data center managers navigate the cloud, including public vs. private, security concerns and more.
- Keynote Address: John Patrick, president of Attitude LLC and former vice president of Internet Technology at IBM, will discuss, “Our Technology Future: Looking to Tomorrow’s Top Trends,” on Monday, September 13, at 8:30 a.m.
- Virtual Data Center Tours from Lockheed Martin and PNNL.
“The effect that the data center has on businesses overall can make or break a company. In light of the natural disasters and cyber attacks that have impacted so many data centers in the recent past, we are concerned that not enough attention has been given to emergency planning. With this in mind, for our upcoming Data Center World conference, we have devoted an entire track of sessions to this topic,” said Jill Yaoz, chief executive officer of AFCOM. “We will, of course, continue to cover all the essential issues data center and facilities managers face today in maintaining the flow of information throughout their organizations.”
For more than 30 years, Data Center World has been known as the premier and largest global event of its kind. The conference is held twice a year in the United States, and earlier this year, AFCOM hosted its first-ever Asia/Pacific Data Center Symposium in Sydney, Australia to discuss issues affecting data center and facilities managers in this region of the world.
