Healthcare innovation is happening all over the world. A Dutch company has developed a surgical robot for performing complex and intricate surgery inside the human eye. A man in Oxford, United Kingdom was the beneficiary of the first ever robot surgery using the new system.
The new Precedes Surgical Robot is able to handle very delicate procedures which require great precision. The patient had a membrane one hundredth of a millimeter thick covering his retina and preventing sight. Using the robot, the surgeon was able to peel back the membrane without damaging any nearby parts of the eye. The robot is able to filter out any hand tremors of the surgeon. The surgery was successful and the patient can see again. He called it a “fairy tale” procedure.
